Robi® Glulams are where wood and technology combine to form an evolutionary wood product. Glued laminated timber, also abbreviated glulam, is a type of structural engineered wood product constituted by layers of small lumber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant, structural marine grade adhesives.
Most glulams and cross laminated timbers (CLTs) are constructed from either soft woods such as pine and douglas fir, or from softer hardwoods such as poplar. These species offer nice lengths and widths, but lack the inherent strength, rot resistance, and natural Class A fire rating that Black Locust offers. Also, by utilizing small strips and pieces of Black Locust, we are taking what might have been waste and making it into a building product. Finally, this process and resulting product enables us to achieve the desired widths and lengths that is hard to come by in standard Black Locust lumber and posts.
Currently our glulams can be milled to a maximum of 3-1/8″ thick by 12″ wide by 16′ long. These pieces can be re-milled into 1 x 12 facia or any other dimension that is needed. Also, we can mill these into bench seats or park elements to custom sizes. For these applications, the glulams offer superior long term performance and dimensional stability versus standard milled lumber.
Pricing is based on Board Footage before any additional milling:
2″ x 12″ x 12′ and 16′ are $15.99 per Board Foot
3-1/8″ x 12″ x 12′ and 16′ are $17.99 per Board Foot
STRENGTH TESTING
Below is the finger joint testing we have completed to-date, with more to follow.
CLASS A FIRE RATING TEST
Black Locust is the only tested domestic born hardwood to test to a Class A Fire Rating.
USDA ROT RESISTANCE RATING
Black Locust is rated in the top category of rot resistance by the USDA.
