Set on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean at Litchfield Beach, this deck was crafted by master carpenter Chad Jones using a combination of Black Locust and Sassafras.
The deck surface features a picture frame layout with a double border of Black Locust 5/4 x 6 Decking. The inlay is Black Locust 5/4 x 4 Decking, pre-grooved and installed with Simpson Strong-Tie Hidden Fasteners for a clean, fastener-free finish.
Black Locust carries through to the structural elements as well, including Black Locust 6 x 6 Re-Sawn Posts and Black Locust 1 x 12 Glulam Fascia forming the outer band. The railing system introduces Sassafras, with Sassafras Custom Milled 2 x 7 Handrails and Sassafras 2 x 3 Stanchions paired with Cable Bullet hardware.
All wood components were finished with Robi Marine Oil.

Trusses, Framing and Roof, Cary, NC
Using our Black Locust, REdesign.build built the trusses and framing for the new container barn at burkettfarm.
They chose Black Locust for a multitude of reasons, including its natural hardness, rot- and pest-resistance, Appalachian roots; fast growth; nitrogen contribution rate, and the pollinator capabilities of its flowers.

Grand Hotel Pool Deck on Mackinac Island
As part of a major renovation at the iconic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Black Locust decking played a key role in enhancing one of the resort’s most cherished features: The Esther Williams Pool.
Led by the thoughtful design team at DTJ Design, the renovation respected the historic hourglass shape of the original pool while improving the surrounding topography. New parallel, curvilinear lounge terraces were introduced, providing guests with enhanced views of both the pool and the surrounding Straits of Mackinac.

One of the most stunning residential deck designs we’ve seen—crafted by the talented David Behm of David Behm Construction in Springfield, Missouri. Using our Black Locust, finished with Robi Oil, Robi Plugs and EB-TY® Premium Hidden Deck-Fastening System™ by Strongtie this deck masterpiece showcases both beauty and durability. David elevated the entire project by focusing on the handrail—an area often overlooked by many.
