Black Locust
This deck and gazebo, located in Aplington, Iowa, were built entirely from Black Locust. The homeowner specifically chose Black Locust for its durability and ability to perform well in a wide range of weather conditions.
Iowa’s climate can be especially demanding—with cold, dry, and snowy winters; wet and humid springs; and hot, humid summers. Black Locust is one of the few woods that can withstand these fluctuations in temperature and moisture without compromising performance. Its natural resistance to rot and decay makes it an ideal choice for outdoor structures in challenging environments.
This project is a great example of both skilled craftsmanship and the long-lasting benefits of using Black Locust for exterior construction.
