This residential deck in Springfield, Missouri stands out as one of the most thoughtfully designed projects we have seen. Built by David Behm of David Behm Construction, the deck features Black Locust 5/4 x 6 Decking finished with Robi Oil, paired with a custom Black Locust handrail system that includes a Black Locust 2 x 6 Top Rail, Black Locust 2 x 4 Subrail, and Black Locust 4 x 4 Posts.
The design incorporates diagonal decking patterns and picture framing, creating a visually striking layout. To maintain a clean finish, the project used the EB-TY® Premium Hidden Deck-Fastening System™ from Simpson Strong-Tie, along with ⅜” Black Locust plugs supplied by Robi Decking.
In many builds, the handrail can be an afterthought, often constructed with lower-grade materials. In this case, the handrail was given the same attention to detail and quality as the decking itself, contributing to the overall impact and longevity of the design. The result is a well-executed, high-performance deck that balances craftsmanship, aesthetics, and durability.
